In 2002, Linda Varg won Kanal 5’s Popstars, landing multi-platinum status with her group, Supernatural, and signing with Warner…
By 2007, she was playing Annie in a production of Chicago in Copenhagen, living out her childhood dream. Three years later, she was one of the finalists of TV4’s Idol. She married Ulf Nilsson, TV4’s The Voice Sverige winner (and fellow Popstars and Idol participant), embarking on a solo career. Varg was born in Grytnäs, a small village in Dalarna with a population of just 25. She grew up listening to reggae, mixing it with rock and pop to create a 90s feeling. Her latest single, Standing In The Middle Of The Road, was written from her own experiences of bullying. She says it’s “a personal message giving off a much bigger meaning.”
The track is aimed at those who’ve been through emotional hardships and risen up from the ashes. “The message is that you should never let anyone, anything, or any circumstances run you over,” Varg explains. “What might seem like a failure – broken dreams and insurmountable obstacles – can instead be the opening to something much greater.” Written alongside Ulf Nilsson, and mastered by mega star Björn Engelmann (ABBA, Backstreet Boys, Zara Larsson), the alt-pop-folk energy draws on a finger-picked guitar, with foot-stomping beats and layered vocals. Reminiscent of Dua Lipa, One Republic and Imagine Dragons, Standing In The Middle Of The Road has been described as providing “a modern twist to a timeless building block of analogue energy.” It’s an undeniable hit: debuting at No.1 on iTunes Rock in Sweden and winning airtime across the rest of Europe.
